Lüneburger Heide II
A second view of the Totengrund from a completely different angle to the first. This valley basin is truly a magical place in the Lüneburg Heath. During the heather bloom, which usually lasts from late August to early September, this already stunning spot is transformed into a landscape of thousands of purple flowers.
If you have the time, you should head here early in the morning and, if you’re lucky, you’ll find the heath shrouded in a delicate morning mist.
Twice I’ve been lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to take photographs – once at Steingrund and once at Totengrund. Both times I was out and about for a book project and returned with some good shots. This is one of the views of Totengrund.
There are many theories as to how this place got its name. It is very likely – given that it is a dry valley – that the soil here was less fertile.
