Pilatusbahn
A sea of fog lies over Lake Alpnach and Lake Lucerne. The Pilatus Railway line is only 5 km long, but it is truly interesting. In the middle of the photograph you can see two red railcars that are currently traveling over Mattalp before reaching their destination Pilatus Kulm a few minutes later after passing the steep Eselwand.
It is fascinating how technology and nature complement each other here – the Pilatus Railway is certainly one of the most wonderful railroads in the Alps, and not just because it is the steepest cogwheel railway line.
I was able to take the first train up to the Pilatus in the early morning. From the paths along the ridge, you have a wonderful view of the railroad and the landscape. Of course, I was incredibly lucky that the sea of fog had settled so wonderfully over the lakes that day.
It’s one of my favourite photographs of the Alpenbahnen project and the print shouldn’t be too small.
