Oberalp Pass
View of the Furka-Oberalp railway line on the western ramp of the Oberalp Pass, down to Andermatt and on deep into the Urseren Valley and across to the mountains of the Uri Alps.
The Glacier Express route is a large and important part of the Alpine railway landscape. The trains must climb almost 600 metres in altitude from the station in Andermatt to the Oberalp Pass over a distance of a good 10 km. I had found several locations with a view of the railway line around the pass, which I wanted to photograph over time for the Alpenbahnen book.
I had already been to this location twice, but as is so often the case, something just wasn’t right. The third time, the lighting was to my liking, the train arrived on time and I was able to photograph it in the right spot.
